Investing for a 55-Year-Old
The Rule of 55 becomes available at this age. Funds in a current employer's 401(k) or 403(b) plan may be withdrawn penalty-free if you leave employment at age 55 or older in the same year. This rule does not apply to IRA accounts or to prior employer plans not rolled into the current plan. It can be a valuable bridge to age 59.5 for early retirees.
