Trading Journal

Spot the edge. Swoop in.

Log trades for stocks and crypto, tag the behavior behind each one from a fixed vocabulary, and see your win rate, R-multiples, and expectancy update as you go. It's free, requires no account, and everything is stored only in this browser — nothing is ever sent to a server.

Your data stays private

Every entry is stored only in this browser's local storage. Nothing is sent to a server. Clearing your browser data or using a different device or browser will not carry your entries over — use the export button to back up your journal.

How to Use This Tool

Log each trade as you take it — symbol, asset class, direction, entry, size, and a stop if you're using one. Add exit price once the trade closes and the tool derives its status, R-multiple, and profit/loss automatically. Check off any behavioral tags that apply from the fixed list below; a closed list is what makes a repeated behavior countable instead of just another paragraph of notes. See how to keep a trading journal that works for the reasoning behind each field, the tag vocabulary, and how to review without hindsight.

The stats panel covers every closed trade in your journal — win rate, average win/loss, average R-multiple, and expectancy — and updates live as you add, edit, or delete entries. Filter the table below it by asset class, status, tag, or symbol to narrow what you're looking at; filtering the table does not change the stats panel, which always reflects your full closed-trade history.

Trading Journal Tool FAQs

Where is my trading journal data stored?

Only in this browser's local storage, on this device. Nothing is sent to a server, and there is no account or sign-in. Clearing your browser data, or opening the tool in a different browser or device, will not carry your entries over — use the export button to save a backup file.

What is an R-multiple, and how does the tool calculate it?

R is the amount you planned to risk on a trade, based on the distance between your entry price and your stop. The R-multiple is the trade's result expressed in units of that risk: reward-per-unit divided by risk-per-unit. The tool needs both a stop price and an exit price to compute it; without a stop, there is no defined risk to measure against.

Is this tool free and does it require an account?

Yes. The journal is free, requires no account or sign-in, and runs entirely in your browser using local storage.

Can I back up or move my journal to another device?

Yes. The Export button downloads all of your entries as a JSON file. On another browser or device, use Import to load that file back in; imported entries are appended to what's already there, and entries with a matching id are skipped so importing the same backup twice is safe.
