Research Workbench

# Stock Research Workbench

Investment Education, Research & Tools for Smarter Decisions.

A repeatable path from "should I look at this company?" to a documented, stress-tested thesis. Screen a watchlist, compare fundamentals side by side, value with scenario ranges, and record the evidence, the risks, and the conditions that would prove you wrong.

## The Swoopr Research Loop

Every tool here serves one process, documented in full on the [methodology page](https://www.getswoopr.com/research/methodology/):

1. **Define** the question, horizon, and what would change your mind.
2. **Understand** the business model and its competitive context.
3. **Measure** growth, margins, cash flow, balance sheet, and dilution from primary sources.
4. **Compare** against peers and the company's own history.
5. **Value** with scenario ranges from transparent methods.
6. **Stress-Test** the thesis: downside cases, contrary evidence, break conditions.
7. **Document** the thesis, its assumptions, and open questions with dated sources.
8. **Review** when new filings or results arrive.

None of it produces a recommendation. The output is a better-organized, honestly stress-tested piece of your own research.

## Workbench Tools

- [Watchlist Stock Screener](https://www.getswoopr.com/research/screener/): filter the companies you are researching by margins, growth, leverage, dilution, and valuation, with seven original preset screens and explicit missing-data handling. Serves the Define and Measure steps.
- [Watchlist ETF Screener](https://www.getswoopr.com/research/screener/etfs/): the same screening engine over the fields a fund actually publishes, including net expense ratio, median bid-ask spread, tracking difference and top-ten weight. Serves the Define and Measure steps for funds.
- [Watchlist REIT Screener](https://www.getswoopr.com/research/screener/reits/): the same engine again over FFO and AFFO payout coverage, occupancy, same-store NOI growth and net debt to EBITDAre, because earnings per share describes a property trust poorly. Serves the Define and Measure steps for real assets.
- [Company Fundamentals Comparison](https://www.getswoopr.com/tools/company-fundamentals-comparison/): put 2 or more companies side by side on the metrics that matter for your question. Serves the Compare step.
- [Compare Investments](https://www.getswoopr.com/compare/): settle how two asset classes, wrappers or account types structurally differ before screening inside either one. Serves the Define step.
- [DCF Valuation Calculator](https://www.getswoopr.com/learn/fundamental-analysis/valuation/discounted-cash-flow-dcf/): build discounted-cash-flow scenarios with every assumption visible. Serves the Value step.
- [Research Workbench](https://www.getswoopr.com/research/workbench/): the guided eight-step research document with a built-in risk register, source freshness tracking, and Markdown or JSON export. Serves the Stress-Test, Document, and Review steps.
- [Source Verification Ladder](https://www.getswoopr.com/research/source-ladder/): match a financial claim to the strongest appropriate source and record that source's known limitations before citing it in a thesis.
- [Investment Data Library](https://www.getswoopr.com/research/data/): inspect dataset provenance, versions, transformations, missing-data rules, and reusable source records that underpin the Workbench tools.
- [How to Cite Swoopr](https://www.getswoopr.com/research/citation-guide/): stable citation formats for research notes, tool outputs, charts, glossary entries, datasets, and frameworks.

## Learn the Discipline Behind Each Step

- [Research Methodology & Formula Definitions](https://www.getswoopr.com/research/methodology/): every metric the Workbench uses, defined with worked examples.
- [How to Analyze a Stock](https://www.getswoopr.com/stocks/how-to-analyze-a-stock/): the multi-method decision framework the Loop operationalizes.
- [Fundamental Analysis](https://www.getswoopr.com/learn/fundamental-analysis/): financial statements, valuation, moats, and capital efficiency in depth.
- [Stock Screening](https://www.getswoopr.com/stocks/stock-screening/): how to build coherent screens and the mistakes that make them useless.
- [Stock Research Foundations](https://www.getswoopr.com/academy/stock-research-foundations/): the structured Swoopr Academy course that pairs with this Workbench.

## Research Infrastructure Behind the Workbench

The Workbench helps organize an individual stock or fund research process. Swoopr's supporting research infrastructure handles a different question: how should the evidence itself be sourced, documented, reproduced, and cited? Use these resources when you need to move beyond the worksheet.

- [Research Methodology](https://www.getswoopr.com/research/methodology/): the eight-step Swoopr Research Loop, formula definitions, source hierarchy, evidence standards, and calculation methodology.
- [Evidence & Validation](https://www.getswoopr.com/about/evidence/): which quality checks are automated, what those checks can and cannot prove, and how corrections are recorded.
- [SEC EDGAR Filing Search](https://www.getswoopr.com/research/edgar-search/): open company filings and primary-source disclosure records directly.
- [Swoopr Source Ladder](https://www.getswoopr.com/research/source-ladder/): match a financial claim to the strongest appropriate source and record its limitations.
- [Investment Data Library](https://www.getswoopr.com/research/data/): inspect dataset provenance, versions, transformations, missing-data rules, and reusable source records.
- [Citation Guide](https://www.getswoopr.com/research/citation-guide/): stable citation formats for Swoopr research notes, tools, charts, glossary entries, datasets, and frameworks.
- [Sentiment source verification](https://www.getswoopr.com/market-sentiment/source-ladder/): where positioning, volatility, credit and leverage numbers come from, ranked by how directly they can be checked.
- [Publication lags and vintage control](https://www.getswoopr.com/market-sentiment/data-latency-vintages/): how release timing and revisions change what a market-data reading means.

The Workbench is designed to help you document a thesis, evidence, assumptions, risks, and what would change your mind. Completing the worksheet does not turn that thesis into a Swoopr recommendation. A strong research record should make disagreement easier to inspect, not make uncertainty disappear.
