## Direct Answer

> Swoopr Market State is the flagship synthesis page that brings Swoopr Fear & Greed, volatility and the proprietary intelligence suite into one explainable market picture without hiding the individual lenses. It is designed to answer one narrow question: What is the clearest current picture of market mood, health, risk, participation, positioning and macro conditions? The output is educational market context, not a forecast, recommendation, or promise of future returns.

# Swoopr Market State

Swoopr Market State is the flagship synthesis page that brings mood, health, risk, participation, positioning and macro conditions into one explainable market picture without collapsing them into an opaque master score.

## Why Swoopr Is Building This

Market State should be Swoopr's recognizable front door to market interpretation. It is not one master score because collapsing fundamentally different questions into one number destroys information. Instead it publishes a compact state label, a plain-English interpretation and a matrix of independent lenses, each with its own methodology, freshness and explanation.

Swoopr already publishes market tools, a live proprietary Fear and Greed gauge, a sentiment dashboard, macro and regime education, portfolio diagnostics and a market-history library. This product makes one missing question measurable, explainable and reusable across the site.

The design principle is: one score must answer one question. Fear and Greed continues to describe sentiment. Volatility continues to describe expected or realized movement. Swoopr Market State does not absorb those meanings. It may use related inputs, but its label, methodology and explanation remain distinct.

## What Swoopr Market State Measures

The model draws from the following evidence families:

- Fear and Greed
- Volatility
- Market Health
- Breadth Pulse
- Market Fragility
- Signal Conviction
- Liquidity Pulse
- Crowding
- Concentration Risk
- Cross-Asset Tension
- Regime stability

The objective is not to maximize the number of inputs. It is to capture independent information. Adding five highly correlated versions of the same concept makes a dashboard look sophisticated while actually reducing clarity. Every candidate input therefore needs an independence rationale in the methodology registry explaining what unique information it adds and what other components it overlaps with.

## Scoring Methodology

Swoopr Market State does not average all lenses into a single market score; the weighted formulas below apply only to the individual lens scores that feed each state rule. Instead, it derives a state label from deterministic rules: directional state, health state, participation state and primary risk. Signal Conviction qualifies the strength of the directional statement. The full lens matrix and the top three changes since the prior session are always published. Every lens links to its canonical methodology page.

### Core normalization standard

For continuously varying market series, the default transform is a rolling historical percentile based on a sufficiently long window, spanning multiple regimes. Percentiles are intuitive and robust to scale differences. For variables with economically meaningful thresholds, Swoopr may use a rules-based mapping instead. The methodology page states which approach is used for each component.

For a raw value *x*, a percentile-based component score is:

`component_score = percentile_rank(x within approved history) x 100`

Where a higher raw value represents worse conditions and the product is scored so that higher means better:

`adjusted_score = 100 - component_score`

The composite is:

`composite = sum(weight_i x adjusted_score_i) / sum(active_weight_i)`

Only fresh, valid components are active. The component registry stores the source timestamp, Swoopr ingestion timestamp, current methodology version and a freshness SLA. No hidden imputation makes missing information appear neutral.

### Coverage and confidence

Every reading publishes coverage separately from the score. If 70% of approved component weight is available, coverage is 70%; the score is not silently rescaled and presented with the same confidence as a fully observed reading. A second quality flag identifies known limitations such as lagged FINRA data, weekly Federal Reserve data or a licensed feed currently unavailable.

## State Labels and Interpretation

There is no master 0-100 score for Swoopr Market State. The state label format is: Direction / Health / Dominant structural condition. For example: Positive / Healthy / Concentrated.

Labels are communication aids, not natural laws. The page always shows the trend, component contributions and the prior reading so the user sees continuity rather than artificial cliffs.

### How to Read It: Beginner View

The beginner layer answers three questions without jargon: What is the reading? Is it improving or weakening? What is driving it? It contains a one-paragraph interpretation and at most three major drivers. Technical terms link to Swoopr glossary definitions.

### Intermediate View

The intermediate layer displays each component family, its current score, trend, weight and contribution. It also offers 1-month, 3-month, 1-year and maximum-history charts where the source history allows. Divergences are highlighted: a composite can remain stable while one important family deteriorates and another improves.

### Advanced View

The advanced layer exposes raw series identifiers, transformations, lookbacks, normalization method, active weights, timestamps, missing-data rules and methodology version. It also offers downloadable methodology JSON and a machine-readable snapshot endpoint.

## FAQ

### Is Swoopr Market State a buy or sell signal?

No. It describes the condition named by the tool and does not recommend a transaction. A high or low reading can persist, and markets can move against the historical pattern associated with any indicator.

### How is Swoopr Market State different from Fear and Greed?

Fear and Greed measures sentiment. Swoopr Market State answers a different question: what is the clearest current picture of market mood, health, risk, participation, positioning and macro conditions? The two are cross-linked but not merged.

### What happens when data are missing?

The affected component is excluded under a predefined rule, coverage falls, and the page shows this to the user. Missing data are not converted to a neutral score.

### Why does Swoopr show a trend separately from the level?

A level and a direction contain different information. A strong reading that is weakening can be more informative than a middling reading that is rapidly improving, without either one implying a specific trade.

### Can the methodology change?

Yes, but never silently. Material changes are versioned, dated and explained. Historical comparability must be disclosed whenever a change affects old readings.

### Source Series and Provenance

The table below lists the primary input series used in this score. Swoopr does not redistribute or relicense third-party data. Source data is retrieved for internal computation only; third-party terms apply to any direct use of those series.

| Component | Primary source | Series / method | Data type |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Directional state | Composite market data | Trend model derived from index price, breadth and momentum | Trend classification |
| Financial conditions | Chicago Fed / FRED | NFCI (National Financial Conditions Index) | Financial conditions |
| Sentiment context | Swoopr / AAII / composite | Derived from Fear and Greed Index inputs | Sentiment |
| Volatility regime | Cboe | VIX level and term structure | Implied volatility |
| Macro regime | Swoopr | Market Regime Classifier output | Regime classification |

### Limitations

State labels are communicative, not mechanically precise. The transition zone between states can produce label changes from session to session without underlying conditions materially changing.
