# Swoopr Research Digest

Investment Education, Research & Tools for Smarter Decisions.

A short, linked summary of what changed and what is new across Swoopr Investment: a rule update, a new guide, a tool worth trying, a glossary term given more room. Each item links to its full canonical page; nothing here duplicates the guide it points to.

## What the Research Digest Is

The Research Digest is a curated summary, not a second copy of Swoopr's library. Each numbered edition picks a handful of items, a rule change, a new guide, a tool, a glossary term worth a closer look, writes a short original note on why it matters, and links to the real, canonical page for the rest. Reading an edition is faster than browsing the whole site for what changed; reading the linked guide is still where the depth lives.

Swoopr has not committed to a fixed publishing schedule for this digest yet. [Edition 1](https://www.getswoopr.com/digest/edition-1/) below is a genuine edition, built entirely from real, already-published Swoopr content, and it sets the template future editions will follow once they publish. There is no invented news and no fabricated "this week in markets" commentary here or in any future edition.

## Every Edition Draws From These Recurring Topics

Not every edition uses every topic, but this is the recurring set an edition is assembled from:

- **One Decision, Explained:** a single investing decision walked through end to end, not a general topic overview.
- **Research Method Spotlight:** one piece of the Swoopr Research Loop methodology, explained on its own.
- **Rule & Regulation Watch:** a brokerage, tax, or market-structure rule that changed, with the effective date.
- **Scam & Security Watch:** a real scam mechanic or account-security risk, broken down before it costs anyone money.
- **Portfolio Concept:** a portfolio-construction or risk idea worth understanding on its own.
- **Glossary Deep Dive:** one glossary term, given more room than a definition line usually gets.
- **Tool Lab:** a free Swoopr calculator or tool worth trying, and what question it actually answers.
- **New & Updated Guides:** recently published or substantially revised guides, picked because something material changed.

One Decision, Explained

### [How to Actually Analyze a Stock, Start to Finish](https://www.getswoopr.com/stocks/how-to-analyze-a-stock/)

Most "how to pick a stock" advice is a checklist. This is a sequence: business model, financial statements, valuation, catalysts, and position sizing, in the order that keeps you from valuing a company before you understand what it does.

Featured in [Edition 1](https://www.getswoopr.com/digest/edition-1/#item-decision-explained), published August 21, 2026.

Research Method Spotlight

### [Every Formula the Research Workbench Uses, in One Place](https://www.getswoopr.com/research/methodology/)

CAGR, margins, net debt, ROIC, dilution, DCF: the Workbench runs all of it, but the formulas and worked examples live on their own methodology page so you can check the math instead of trusting a black box.

Featured in [Edition 1](https://www.getswoopr.com/digest/edition-1/#item-research-method), published August 21, 2026.

Rule & Regulation Watch

### [FINRA Replaced the Pattern Day Trader Rule's $25,000 Minimum](https://www.getswoopr.com/learn/taxes-and-rules/brokerage-and-trading-rules/pattern-day-trader-rule/)

Effective June 4, 2026, FINRA swapped the old four-trade, $25,000 minimum framework for a continuous intraday margin standard, with brokers phasing it in through October 2027.

Featured in [Edition 1](https://www.getswoopr.com/digest/edition-1/#item-rule-watch), published August 21, 2026. Event date: June 4, 2026.

Scam & Security Watch

### [The Four Ways a Crypto Rug Pull Actually Happens](https://www.getswoopr.com/security/crypto-scams/rug-pull-anatomy/)

Liquidity pulls, malicious minting, honeypots, and slow rugs are different mechanisms with different warning signs, walked through with a worked example and a due-diligence checklist.

Featured in [Edition 1](https://www.getswoopr.com/digest/edition-1/#item-security-watch), published August 21, 2026.

Portfolio Concept

### [What the Sharpe Ratio Actually Rewards](https://www.getswoopr.com/risk-management/performance/sharpe-ratio/)

A higher Sharpe ratio means more return per unit of volatility, not more return by itself. The full guide works two examples side by side, plus where the ratio breaks down.

Featured in [Edition 1](https://www.getswoopr.com/digest/edition-1/#item-portfolio-concept), published August 21, 2026.

Glossary Deep Dive

### [Cost Basis Is Not Just What You Paid](https://www.getswoopr.com/glossary/c/#term-cost-basis)

Cost basis is the number that determines your taxable gain or loss, and it moves: reinvested dividends and adjustments change it after the original purchase.

Featured in [Edition 1](https://www.getswoopr.com/digest/edition-1/#item-glossary-deep-dive), published August 21, 2026.

Tool Lab

### [The CD Ladder Builder Splits a Lump Sum Into Rungs](https://www.getswoopr.com/tools/cd-ladder-builder/)

Enter a total amount and a number of rungs, and the tool splits it evenly and illustrates a year of interest per rung at an assumed flat APY.

Featured in [Edition 1](https://www.getswoopr.com/digest/edition-1/#item-tool-lab), published August 21, 2026.

New & Updated Guides

### [A New Futures Cluster: Contracts, Margin, and Risk](https://www.getswoopr.com/futures/)

Four new guides: Futures Basics, Futures Margin, How to Read a Futures Contract, and Futures Risk Management, building on each other rather than repeating the same ground.

Featured in [Edition 1](https://www.getswoopr.com/digest/edition-1/#item-new-guides), published August 21, 2026.
